Raymond Kao is an I.T. consultant, web developer and entrepreneur. He holds professional certifications from Microsoft, Cisco and has been specializing in Apple solutions for the the past 3 years.

He has been the project lead in deploying computing solutions for major healthcare providers, municipal governments and major retailers. Currently he is the founder of The Work Republic, a coworking facility in the North York area that this is opening in the Spring of 2011.

Sean Ward

Sean Ward is an entertainer, artist, and filmmaker who has cited The Beatles as a major inspiration on his creativity since he was a small child.

He has been a speaker on The Beatles for a variety of events and major media outlets, and is the author of an original graphic novel about The Beatles that is slated for a Spring 2011 release from Harth Publishing.

Joseph Pasek

Joseph is a former touring musician from the Midwest United States. He has been delving into the realm of “New Media” for the last 10 years, and has spent any spare time not concentrating on music designing and developing for the web.

In 2006, he moved to Toronto in pursuit of a career in Interactive Media. In 2008, he was a featured artist at Flash in the Can (FITC). Shortly thereafter, he found work as a Programmer with Decode Entertainment Inc, one of the Worlds leading distributors of Youth Television programming. There, he develops applications and games for the web and other platforms.

This session will serve as a wrap-up for the course: recapping all of the material covered, and discussing “where do I go from here?”.

We will reflect on the production process and discuss where and how individuals can take their experience and either build on it, or use it to position themselves to merge into a professional role within the Digital Media Industry.

These days, a web development without a content management system is about as useful as a bicycle without pedals.

You can get it up and running for a while, but in the long term, it takes far too much work to get to where you need to be.

This session will serve as an introduction to WordPress. We will investigate the features and behaviour of a fresh WordPress download out-of-the-box, and go about planning our project out – Which features will we be looking to keep? Which features are unnecessary? What extra functionality will we need?

This session will also serve as a basic introduction to templating and theming. We will also go through how to set-up a localhost on your own computer, in order to be able to develop and test your project without having to constantly upload files to a remote server.

During Week 7, we will take a look at the last of the three core web development languages: JavaScript.
JavaScript is known as the programming language of the web browser, and is responsible for adding interactivity and interface effects to web pages.

Often the most important aspect of a site is the ability to generate leads and user feedback through the use of online forms.

JavaScript can be used to encourage users to fill out forms, and help us make sure that the information that they send us is valid.

When you speak of show-stopping websites - the kind that people tell all their friends to check out - it is likely that Adobe Flash played a major role in the development: games, animation, streaming media players, and rich, interactive experiences - the prevalence of Flash is unmistakeable.

Session six will serve as an introduction to Flash. In this session, we will be taking a look at the Flash software from the bottom-up and begin discussing the benefits and drawbacks of using the Flash IDE vs. controlling your Flash project with ActionScript 3.
